TECH TIPS:  V24 Combo & M24 Microhematocrit

Many high-performance centrifuges, such as our V24 Combo and our M24 Microhematocrit centrifuges, use brushed motors to attain high speeds.  Like the brakes on your car, brushes on motors wear down over time and need to be changed every year or two depending on usage.  We recommend checking the brushes every 1,000 hours of use or every year, whichever comes first.  Brushes can be checked and/or replaced in about 15 minutes with only a screwdriver.  And just like the brakes on your car, if the brushes wear down too far, the motor can be damaged, turning what would have been a simple low-cost maintenance procedure into an expensive motor repair.   The best rule would be to go ahead and purchase a spare set of brushes when a new V24 Combo or M24 centrifuge is purchased, and tape them to the rear of the machine for safe keeping until needed.  This will eliminate a panic call on a Friday afternoon a few years from now when the brushes are worn down and the centrifuge is out of commission for the weekend.
