SoiLite Ring Light Illuminator
SKUILL-SOIL-I4M3
Product Overview
See what's actually happening on the surface of your soil samples.
We worked with regenerative agriculture educator Matt Powers and LW Scientific to create the SoiLite—a ring light that lets you observe the living surface of roots, fungal hyphae, spores, and soil aggregates the way traditional bottom lighting just can't.
Two Ways to Use It
- SoiLite i4 – Mounts directly to your LW Scientific i4 microscope
- SoiLite Desk Model – Standalone unit that works with most compound microscopes via cable
What Makes It Useful
- Adjustable LED lighting that doesn't wash out your sample
- Top-down view shows you root surfaces, mycorrhizal networks, and how soil particles stick together
- Natural color rendering so you can actually tell what you're looking at
- Simple clamp design fits objectives up to 1" (25.4mm) in diameter—works with nearly all microscope brands
- Built tough enough for the field, clean enough for the lab
Why This Matters
Bottom lighting shows you outlines and shadows. Top lighting shows you texture—the fungal threads weaving through organic matter, bacterial films on root hairs, the sticky stuff holding aggregates together. If you're trying to understand whether your soil or compost is actually alive, this helps you see it.
Perfect for growers, consultants, researchers, or anyone who wants to know what's really going on down there.
